Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 10) – The University of the Philippines announced Tuesday that it will not conduct its University Admission Test (UPCAT) for freshmen entering the 2021-2022 academic year due to the continuing threat of COVID-19.

The state university, on its official website, said that the municipalities within the UP system “decided unanimously” to end the UPCAT “for logistical reasons.”

Considering the uncertain trajectory and uneven spread of COVID-19 in different parts of the Philippines, the majority of UC (University Council) members did not consider it feasible to administer the usual UPCAT which involves around 1,600 deployed test persons in 94 test centers throughout the archipelago, ”said UP.

UPCAT 2021 was supposed to be administered from October 10-11, 2020.

The university noted that its Admissions Office is “currently modifying” the system for the upcoming admissions year.

“Following the decision of the University Councils, OAdms has set the start of the application period in December 2020. The exact date will be announced,” he added.

UP has advised interested freshmen to monitor announcements related to the college application process.
