North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Corp. asked the Valenzuela city government for more time to address the deterioration in vehicular traffic in the city related to the company’s RFID system.
In a letter to Mayor Rex Gatchalian dated Saturday, NLEX Corp. President and CEO J. Luigi Bautista said the company began implementing the 100 percent RFID program only last Tuesday.
Gatchalian has threatened to suspend NLEX’s business permit if his administration does not fix the traffic problems related to the RFID installation unit.
“We seek with the utmost respect the leniency of your good office so that you are given a reasonable period of 15 days to respond to the concerns raised in your letter. We have already mobilized the relevant teams to present their findings and recommendations,” he said Baptist.
“As an initial step, we would also like to have the opportunity to conduct a structured observation visit together with the representatives of the Tolls Regulatory Board.
“This can provide a place where we can collectively discuss both concerns and challenges at this very early stage of contactless and cashless RFID implementation across the entire NLEX / SCTEX network.”
Gatchalian thanked NLEX through his social media account for responding with a letter.
Still, however, it did not solve the problem, the mayor said.
“With all due respect, the RFID system at their tolls has been there for years, in one form or another (eztrip, etc.). It took years to fix it but it didn’t. So, saying that December 1 is the date “The reckoning is clearly not a fact,” Gatchalian said.
“It’s been a long time since your RFID broke, RFID was only a minority of your lanes, so not everyone is noticing. But now that everyone is required to use it, problems appear that should have stopped for a long time if you just borrowed enough attention. “
(Your RFID has malfunctioned for years, but RFID lanes were in the minority back then. Only now that RFID has become mandatory has the problem it should have solved long ago has become apparent.)
Gatchalian reiterated his demand that RFID problems be resolved as soon as possible or motorists will have to continue their daily ordeal.
“The suffering Valencian public can no longer wait another 15 days as you requested. The suffering has to stop. It is already taking its toll on the economic, mental and general well-being of our citizens. NGAYON HINDI BUKAS SOLUTIONS.
“In short, this letter does not reach concrete action plans, solutions and arrangements.”
