OFFICIALS from the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Corporation have met with officials from the Manila Metropolitan Development Authority (MMDA) and some local government units (LGU) to discuss measures that can increase driver comfort and a traffic flow more fluid in toll plazas.

NLEX Corporation President and General Manager Luigi Bautista shared his traffic measurements with MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia, Caloocan City Mayor Oscar Malapitan, and Chapter President of the League of Mayors of the Philippines -Bulacán and the mayor of the city of Guiguinto, Boy Cruz.

Bautista met with Malapitan and Garcia separately when they visited ongoing operations at the NLEX Balintawak toll plaza in the city of Caloocan. Cruz received the NLEX operations team at his office in the city of Guiguinto.

To quickly address customer concerns during the transition to the cashless and contactless radio frequency identification (RFID) system, the tolling company has established its action plan, which includes the reopening of cash lines and the transfer of the installation of RFID tags in progress and the recharging activities outside toll plazas.

Following a dialogue with the Tolls Regulatory Board to ensure faster traffic flow during expected traffic waves, a “barrier” procedure will also be implemented on the RFID lanes. This means that on RFID lanes where lane barriers are kept up, RFID subscribers do not need to stop and move forward during their passage, even as scanners / readers continue to operate and record toll transactions.

“We will open cash lines at all toll plazas during this transition to 100 percent cashless transactions. For the smaller plazas, where there are limited lanes, we will have a dedicated RFID lane next to a combined cash / RFID lane, “said Bautista.

He added that sticker installation and RFID recharging will also be relocated to other locations so as not to compete with the limited space on the road. They will be transferred to other strategic areas on and off the highway.

“NLEX Corporation will always be ready to help solve Metro Manila’s daily traffic bottlenecks and alleviate holiday traffic problems for motorists,” said Bautista.
