The Meralco Bolts relied on timely punches from Chris Newsome and Trevis Jackson for a 109-104 overtime victory over the Magnolia Hotshots on Tuesday at the Angeles University Foundation Sports Arena.

Newsome made a bold step over Magnolia’s tight defense of Mark Barroca with 9.5 seconds left to give his team a 107-104 lead. Newsome also hit a booming 3-pointer with two minutes remaining in overtime, as the Bolts never lost the lead.

The Bolts trailed by five in the final two minutes of regulation time before Jackson took over offensively. He knocked down a triple with a minute and a half remaining and then hit another with 57.2 seconds left to give his team a 91-90 lead.

After both teams went back and forth from the charity streak, Paul Lee’s free throws tied the game at 94 each with 13.3 seconds remaining. Newsome tried to win in regulation but couldn’t find the back of the net at the buzzer. Fortunately, he made up for his mistake in the extra session.

Meralco improves his record to 2-2, while Magnolia suffers a second straight loss by a 1-3 card.
