MANILA – The PAGASA state meteorological office said Thursday it was monitoring a new storm in Mindanao.
Climate specialist Shelly Ignacio, in a press conference at 4 am, said the low pressure area (LPA) was located 820 kilometers east of the city of Davao.
The trough or extension of the LPA can bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas, North Mindanao, Caraga, Soccsksargen and the Davao Region.
The looming storm is unlikely to turn into a tropical cyclone, Ignacio said. But if it turns into a storm, it can pass over the central part of the country, he added.
Meanwhile, the northeast or amihan monsoon continues to affect parts of Luzon.
Amihan can cause cloudy skies with rain over the Cagayan Valley and the Cordillera Administrative Region. Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon may also experience partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated light rains due to amihan.
The rest of the country can generally have a pleasant climate with chances of rain due to localized thunderstorms.
