MANILA, Philippines – Heavy rains from tropical depression Vicky have killed eight, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Monday.
Five deaths were recorded in the Caraga region, two in eastern Visayas and one in the Davao region, the NDRRMC said in its latest report.
Two people were injured and one disappeared in the Caraga region.
In an interview with ABS CBN News Channel, NDRRMC spokesman Mark Timbal said that around 36,000 people were affected by the tropical cyclone in the Davao and Caraga regions.
He could not immediately give the number of people evacuated, but said that some of the displaced in the Caraga region have started to return to their homes and “some evacuation centers have been emptied.”
Vicky left the Philippine area of responsibility on Sunday afternoon after devastating the Mindanao region and parts of Luzon and Visayas.
