MANILA, Philippines – The University of Perpetual Help has appointed assistant Mike Saguiguit as the new head coach of its men’s basketball team.

Anton Tamayo, the school board liaison officer in charge of the athletic program, made Saguiguit’s appointment official Tuesday night.

Saguiguit, 46, replaced Frankie Lim, who resigned last September after making the decisions for the Altas in the past two seasons. Saguiguit had served as the team’s interim coach since Lim’s departure.

“Thanks to [the] Perpetual Community for trusting me to handle the senior basketball program from our beloved Alma Mater, University of Perpetual Help, to Sir Tony, Chief Anton, Sir Anthony and Chief Richard, “Saguiguit said in a press release .

“I will do my best to elevate our color, maroon and gold to our University to the next level of competition. Come and support our dear Alma Mater this basketball season. “

Perpetual Help missed the last four last season after finishing seventh with a 5-13 record.

Aside from 6-7 sophomore Mario Barasi Jr., Saguiguit said the Altas have retained their core from last season led by skipper Jielo Razón, Ben Adamos and Tonton Peralta.

Joph Cleofas, one of Saguitsuit’s assistants, has been tasked with managing the high school team.
