MANILA – The National Bureau of Investigation is prepared to investigate the early vaccination of President Rodrigo Duterte’s close security team against COVID-19.
“We will contact them within the day. We hope they will cooperate in this investigation,” NBI spokesman Ferdinand Lavin told the ANC.
The NBI will also investigate government officials who approved the inoculation, which the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) did not approve, it said.
“We will continue to gather evidence that will support our investigation and then we will make the necessary recommendation based on the evidence that we have gathered,” Lavin said.
The NBI will collect documentary evidence, such as the vaccine import record and testimonial evidence from those who received COVID-19 injections.
It was President Rodrigo Duterte who revealed in his public speech that some military personnel had already been vaccinated against COVID-19.
Military officials confirmed the move to the dismay of healthcare workers, who are at increased risk of contracting the virus.
PSG boss Jesús Durante had said they vaccinated themselves, which began in September.
He also said that he would take full responsibility for the incident, emphasizing that it was done “in good faith” and in compliance with his duty to protect the president.
