MANILA, Philippines – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) formed a composite team to investigate the shooting in Quezon City between Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) officers and police officers that left four dead, said the Saturday the Secretary of Justice Menardo Guevarra.

In a message to reporters, Guevarra said the team is led by NBI Deputy Director Atty. Antonio Pagatpat, and is assisted by agents from the NBI’s investigative, intelligence, and forensic divisions.

Guevarra also shared what happened during the meeting with President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday night, where the head of the PNP, General Debold Sinas, and the general director of the PDEA, Wilkins Villanueva, were also present.

“The president personally told the head of the PDEA, Villanueva, and the head of the PNP, Sinas, to suspend the joint investigation of the shooting incident,” Guevarra said.

This, as Duterte ordered that the NBI be the only agency to investigate the shooting, citing that it was to “ensure fairness.”

“I requested that both the PDEA and the PNP be directed to extend their full cooperation to the NBI,” said the Secretary of Justice.

Four people were killed, while four others were injured in the shootout between PDEA Special Execution Service (SES) agents and the District Special Operations Unit (DSOU) of the Quezon City Police that resulted from a raid-buy operation at a mall along the Commonwealth. Avenue on Wednesday.
