LeBron James scored 28 points as the Los Angeles Lakers approached a 17th NBA championship victory Tuesday with a 102-96 victory over the Miami Heat.
Humiliated by Miami in Game 3 on Sunday, James and the Lakers came roaring back in a close defensive battle that was finely balanced until Los Angeles pulled away in the final minutes.
The victory puts the Lakers 3-1 up in the best-of-seven series, meaning they can clinch the championship with Game 5 victory in Orlando on Friday.
James started slowly but clicked in the second half to lead the score while providing eight assists and collecting 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Anthony Davis finished with 22 points, while Kentavious Caldwell-Pope contributed a vital contribution of 15 points.
Caldwell-Pope’s tally included a final-stage triple and layup that put the Lakers ahead seven points with two minutes to go.
Then Davis used up just his second triple of the night with 39.5 seconds left to give the Lakers a 100-91 lead and effectively seal the competition.
Butler, the 40-point hero of Miami’s victory Sunday, was restricted to 22 points and rookie Tyler Herro added 21.
Bam Adebayo, who was returning from a neck injury after missing the previous two games, finished with 15 points.
