NBA analyst criticizes LeBron James and his agency after Kentavious Caldwell-Pope re-signed with Lakers

LeBron James and Klutch Sports obviously share a very close relationship. Klutch Sports is run by Rich Paul, one of LeBron’s closest friends. James is his biggest customer.

They do, however, represent a large number of NBA stars. Obviously, this puts them in a difficult position when negotiating free agency deals for everyone. But no player has ever spoken badly of the agency and they generally operate in the best interest of the individual player.

Skip Bayless is really upset with the way the Klutch Sports talents have moved around in free agency. However, he had to do this about LeBron James. He attacked the Lakers who re-signed Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (despite having bird rights) and said Klutch Sports and LeBron run the league.

It’s typical of Bayless to react like this to things he doesn’t foresee. This is nothing new from Bayless. He attacked Rajon Rondo by joining the Atlanta Hawks over the LA Clippers. The Lakers have operated very smartly and improved their team since last season, and Skip Bayless is upset about that.

However, Bayless is right to be concerned about Klutch Sports. In any sport, a powerful agent or agency can control many of the league’s movements. But to say that they operate only in favor of LeBron is a bit stupid. Players wouldn’t sign with Klutch if there was an obvious LeBron bias.

Another thing, Klutch doesn’t even have the full control that many people assume. They have more than 30 players on their books. These include Ben Simmons, Anthony Davis, John Wall, Montrezl Harrel, Trae Young, and others. His growing portfolio is built on the trust that is spreading through the league.

Every agency has a valued athlete, and it’s easy to tell that they’re trying to do the star athlete favors. The number of individual options players have is unprecedented in basketball. Agencies always work to help their clients get what they want.

Skip Bayless is disappointed in this free agency. But, the season will finally be played on the court. Hopefully your team does better there.
