Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 21) – A steel bar from part of the Skyway extension project crashed into passing vehicles on Saturday morning in the city of Muntinlupa, leaving one motorcyclist dead and at least six others injured.
EEI Corporation, the construction company on the Skyway Stage 3 project, said in a statement that a crane that was in place “tipped and fell” onto the steel beam, crushing the vehicles below it.
The incident occurred along East Service Road in Barangay Cupang around 8:50 a.m., the Southern Police District said. Seven vehicles were damaged, including a taxi, a pickup truck, a pickup truck and four motorcycles, which were headed north, Muntinlupa police said.
At least seven victims were rushed to hospital, but one of the motorcyclists was pronounced dead upon arrival.
“We are monitoring the progress of the injured and we are trying to get in touch with their families for proper coordination and provide any assistance they may need,” said the EEI, noting that all the victims were taken to the hospital by ambulances. of his firm and Skyway O&M Corp.
He said he immediately cleared the area to restore traffic flow.
The company also committed to reviewing operational and security protocols to prevent further incidents.

He said the incident delays the completion of the Skyway Stage 3 project, which was initially set for the end of the year.
“After initial assessment, this unfortunate incident delays the completion of the Skyway Extension Project. As of the December 2020 deadline, the planned completion is now February 2021,” SMC said in a separate statement.
