Authorities have recorded more tremor activity at the Taal volcano in the past 24 hours, according to the latest PHIVOLCS bulletin on Thursday.

PHIVOLCS said the Taal Volcano Network recorded 91 shaking episodes lasting one to five minutes. The number has risen compared to the 69 tremors recorded on Wednesday.

In the main crater a weak emission of white plumes loaded with steam was observed that rose to five meters of height from fumaroles. PHIVOLCS said this is lower compared to the 20-meter-high white steam-charged columns on Wednesday.

Other details about the activities of the Taal Volcano indicated in the previous bulletin were kept.

On February 12, the temperature of the main crater lake was measured at 77.1 ° C with a pH of 1.59, according to PHIVOLCS.

Since October a slight deflation has been observed around the main crater.

“Overall, continuous GPS data has recorded a very slow and steady inflation of the Taal region after the eruption,” said PHIVOLCS.

Alert level 1 is maintained over the Taal volcano, which means that sudden explosions driven by steam or water tables, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall and lethal accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas can occur.

These hazards threaten areas within the island of the Taal volcano, PHIVOLCS warned.

Recently, authorities evacuated residents from Taal Volcano Island, a permanent danger zone. When the volcano calmed down after the January 2020 eruption, some people returned to the area, authorities said. —Joviland Rita / KBK, GMA News
