Cadena, YouTube sensation, dies at 26
Basketball was one of Lloyd Cadena’s shared interests before his rise to one of the country’s most popular social media personalities was cut short with his sudden disappearance.
Cadena, who died on Friday at the age of 26, had made known his love for watching PBA games and for supporting Gilas Pilipinas.
In fact, Cadena dedicated a vlog where he asked his neighbors for their reaction to the fight between Gilas Pilipinas and Australia in July 2018, describing the incident as the “FIBA Wrestling Cup”.
The vlog, titled “IS GILAS RIGHT FOR AUSTRALIAN BOOMERS?” it attracted more than 364,000 views on YouTube.
He later became one of the influencers selected to promote last year’s FIBA World Cup, with Cadena wearing a Gilas practice jersey.
“Thank you Lloyd Cafe Cadena for always supporting our #GilasPilipinas team,” said Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas after sharing one of Cadena’s posts last year.
It is unknown how much of a basketball fan Cadena is, but he had tweeted several times about the PBA and Gilas games he watches on television.
“EXTRA HOURS, people shout. I can’t relate to #PBA, ”Cadena tweeted on May 6, 2012 while watching the exciting Game 7 of the PBA Commissioner Cup Finals between B-Meg and Talk ‘N Text.
Cadena was also active in tweeting Gilas in a losing effort against host China in the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship final.
“Receive qualifications from FIBA. Congratulations Gilas and Congratulations to China #GilasTamangPanahon ”, he tweeted after Gilas’ 78-67 loss.
One of his latest basketball-related tweets came on September 1, 2018 when he asked fans why they were watching the PBA.
“Why are you watching the PBA?” Cadena said. “UNA. You are a fan of Basketball B. Don’t move to the channel you want C. Bet on the end.”
