LEGAZPI CITY, Albay, Philippines – A total of 87,908 families or 316,033 people were evacuated to safer areas before Typhoon “Rolly” (international name: Goni) made landfall in Catanduanes.
Gremil Alexis Naz, information officer for the Bicol Civil Defense Office, said that at 12 am on Sunday, 36,357 families (116,111 people) were evacuated in Albay; 8,394 families (34,980 people) in Camarines Norte; 29,951 families (114,171 individuals) in Camarines Sur; 2,723 families (9,697 people) in Catanduanes; 16 families (71 people) in Masbate and 10,467 families (41,000 people) in Sorsogon.
Naz said the 77,353 families were housed in evacuation centers, while 10,555 stayed in private homes and buildings.
The Office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development has increased P10 million in food packages and P26 million in non-food items.
Meanwhile, Philippine Coast Guard Bicol said 132 passengers were stranded at various ports in Albay while 881 were at Sorsogon.
At least 459 rolling loads, 55 fishing boats and five motorboats were also stranded.
In its 2 am bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Typhoon Rolly has escalated into a super typhoon.
