BANGKOK – A senior official from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) inspected the Chatuchak weekend market on Saturday (May 9) the first day of its reopening after being closed since March 22 under a government order to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Wullaya Wattanarat, permanent undersecretary of city administration, said: “The BMA will allow the market to open on weekends from 5am to 6pm in all areas except the watchtower and night market areas due to touch restrictions. curfew. ” “There are 10,334 vendors who have expressed interest in continuing to open their stores in the market.”
To prevent the possible spread of Covid-19, BMA has limited market access from six locations, which will have detection control points equipped with thermal scanners at all locations. Vehicles will be allowed in / out through Kamphaengphet Road and Phaholyothin Road only.
“All vendors and customers must wear sanitary or cloth masks, while restaurants must comply with the social distancing measures announced by the Ministry of Public Health,” he added. “Additionally, the eight public restrooms in the market will be cleaned every two hours and will provide alcohol-based hand gels to visitors.”
Sellers selling items such as clothing have been instructed to limit the number of customers to five at a time for small stores and 10 for larger stores. Activities involving crowds are prohibited in the market.
“BMA will also help sellers at Chatuchak Weekend Market by exempting them from paying rent for three months,” added Wullaya.
