Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 10) – More areas in the Bicol Region and the Visayas were placed under Signal No. 1 by the state meteorological office PAGASA due to Tropical Storm Ulysses.

In its 5 am bulletin, the provinces of Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay and Sorsogon are under the lowest tropical cyclone wind signal. These places were recently devastated by Super Typhoon Rolly, which left 25 dead and billions of pesos in damage to infrastructure and agriculture.

Also under Signal No. 1 are the eastern part of Masbate, including the islands of Ticao and Burias, the southeastern part of Quezon, the entire province of North Samar, the northern part of Samar, and the northern part of Eastern Samar.

Locations under Signal No. 1 will experience winds of 30 to 60 kilometers per hour (kph) and intermittent rain for the next 36 hours.

State meteorologists have warned that the storm could intensify, which could lead it to place some areas in Bicol under the number 2 tropical cyclonic wind signal. Raise the n signal. 3 is also a possibility when Odysseus passes the Luzon landmass.

PAGASA projected that Ulises will make landfall in Quezón on Thursday morning, with a close approach at Catanduanes and Camarines Norte on Wednesday afternoon and evening respectively.

The possibility of making landfall in the Bicol region on Wednesday afternoon or evening is also increasing due to the “slight change” in the orientation of the tropical strom runway, PAGASA added.

Ulysses is expected to become a severe tropical storm tonight, while it can reach typhoon category on Wednesday morning and gain its maximum intensity at 140-155 km / h on Wednesday afternoon or at night when touching land.

PAGASA last saw Ulises 555 km east of Virac, Catanduanes with maximum sustained winds of 65 km / h and gusts of up to 80 km / h as it moved slowly to the northwest.

The state meteorological office has warned of light to moderate rains and sometimes heavy rains in Aurora, Quezon, the Bicol region, Eastern Visayas, Caraga and the Davao region due to tropical storm Ulises.

Moderate to heavy rains associated with rain bands from the tropical storm will begin to affect the Bicol region and parts of eastern Visayas on Wednesday.

PAGASA warned of possible floods and landslides that can occur due to prolonged rains, especially in these areas.

Ulysses will also bring rough seas to very rough seas today in areas under Signal No. 1, Aurora, northern Quezon, and the east coast of East Samar. Sea travel is risky in these places, especially for small boats.

The end of a cold front will also bring light to moderate rains with sometimes heavy rains over Cagayán, including Babuyán, Isabela and Apayao islands.
