MANILA – Monsoon rains intensified by a low-pressure area will persist in parts of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao on Sunday, the state meteorological office said.

The LPA, last seen in the vicinity of Conner City in Apayao, will traverse the Ilocos provinces on Sunday and approach the Western Philippine Sea on Monday morning, according to PAGASA meteorological specialist Benison Estareja.

Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, Visayas, the Zamboanga peninsula, northern Mindanao, Caraga and Bangsamoro will experience scattered monsoon rains and thunderstorms, PAGASA said.

The rest of Mindanao will experience scattered showers due to the southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms.

Another LPA was estimated 840 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, but it is not likely to turn into a tropical depression in the next 2 days, Estareja said.

“It doesn’t affect our country yet,” he said.
