SMART CLARK GIGA CITY – Javee Mocon was very anxious less than a day after Paul Lee “disrespected” him twice.

Mocon put up a sticky defense on Lee, but the latter managed to sink a hard jumper that gave Magnolia a 68-62 lead over Rain or Shine with 1:10 remaining in their game Saturday.

Soon after, Lee gestured with his right arm down and palm to the ground, a gesture often used in the NBA to say that the defender is “too small” for the shooter.

Lee drained nearly the same shot against Mocon with 41 seconds left to seal the deal for the Hotshots, 70-62. And as expected, the “Angas ng Tondo” made the same hand signal.

On Sunday, Mocon took that as fuel to explode with a game-high 19 points and 13 rebounds, and led the Elasto Painters back into the winning column at Blackwater’s expense, 82-71.

“Oo naman,” the 25-year-old forward quickly responded after being asked if he used that incident with Lee as additional motivation.

“For me, it’s part of the game, but disrespecting him, sa’kin huh. Parang alam mo ‘yun, I want to play at a high level. I want to play at a niya level. But obviously, he’s playing at a different level than me. ”

“He scored against me. It was a good defense. But it’s disrespectful huh. ”

The former San Bede standout recalled an instance where Lee taunted him during the game.

“Paul keeps saying, ‘Hey, your belt.’ But I know, you know, kidding. As long as he’s like that. He’s a different player. And I want to be on the same level as him.”

With his performance that helped the Elasto Painters break a three-game losing streak and move one step closer to the playoffs, Mocon wanted to show he belongs in the league.

“I just want to show people why a lot of people are texting me now, uh, people I don’t know, what kind of things. That’s what Paul Lee did to me then. I played a bad game and then he scored me. So this is to show everyone that I can play too. “
