MITSUBISHI Motors Corp. (MMC) introduced its Outlander PHEV hybrid SUV in the Philippines as part of its plan to expand in the Southeast Asian region.
“ASEAN is MMC’s growth engine in the three-year medium-term business plan announced in July this year,” MMC COO Yoichiro Yatabe said in a press release Monday.
“We will not only support the development of the country’s automotive industry and economy, but we will also encourage communities to protect the environment for a sustainable future.”
The company said the Philippines is the second region where it introduced the Outlander PHEV, after Indonesia. Sales began on September 5 at Peak Motors Philippines, Inc. in Manila Bay.
Introduced in 60 countries since 2013, the vehicle has total sales of 260,000 units in August.
The vehicle has a two-motor 4WD system and an EV-based PHEV architecture with a front electric motor, a rear electric motor and no gearbox.
MMC sales fell 42.8% to 3,149 units in July, compared to the same month last year, according to data from the Philippine Chamber of Automobile Manufacturers, Inc. It had the second largest market share with a fifteen%. – Jenina P. Ibáñez
