MANILA, Philippines – Despite the withdrawal of two candidates due to COVID-19, the Miss Universe Philippines Organization said they praised their “bravery and courage” and assured them that they will provide the support they need.
“While it is unfortunate and heartbreaking to see some of our candidates leave the competition, we thank them for being part of the Miss Universe Philippines family,” the organization said in a statement Saturday.
“We salute your bravery and courage as you go through this difficult time and please be assured that we will continue to provide all the help and support you need,” he added.
The statement comes after two candidates, Vincy Vacalares de Cagayan de Oro and Maria Isabela Galeria de Sorsogon withdrew from the contest after contracting COVID-19.
The Miss Universe Philippines Organization also supported Vacalares and Galeria, saying, “We firmly believe that this is not the end of their journey, as they will soon be victorious in pursuing their dreams of becoming beauty queens.”
Meanwhile, the organization assured that the health and safety of candidates still joining the competition remains the top priority.
“We remain committed to ensuring that we follow all protocols and guidelines established by the Interagency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID),” said the Miss Universe Organization.
The organization added that it has “constantly coordinated with Baguio city officials to ensure that we follow their rigorous protocols in order to preserve its status as a COVID-free city.”
Baguio is the host city of the next contest.
Miss Universe Philippines 2020 will have her coronation ceremonies on October 25.
