MANILA – The Philippine Air Force (PAF) on Thursday celebrated military honors to 4 airmen who died after a military helicopter they were in for a medical evacuation mission crashed in Basilan.

Air Force personnel received the flag-covered coffins of the 3 soldiers at Fernando Air Base in Batangas and Clark Air Base in Pampanga, respectively.

Meanwhile, the remains of a fourth soldier were handed over to his family in the city of Zamboanga.

Selected unit commanders and senior officers rendered arrival honors, in which they gave their final salute to comrades.

“In honor of its service to the country, the PAF ensures that grieving families will receive the necessary assistance,” the PAF said in a statement.

Air Force crews were on their way to Sulu to transport personnel injured in the August 24 suicide bombings in Jolo to the city of Zamboanga when their Sikorsky helicopter crashed.
