Michigan Jewish cemetery desecrated with ‘pro-Trump’ messages

The desecration was found in the Ahavas Israel Cemetery just hours before President Donald Trump held a rally Monday night in Grand Rapids.

The Michigan Anti-Defamation League (ADL) posted photos on its Twitter account that showed spray-painted gravestones with “Trump” and “MAGA” written in red paint.

Police Sgt. John Wittkowski said the cemetery is in a secluded location, so there are no clues or videos. He said the incident, which is under investigation, likely occurred in the past three to five days.

The ADL said it is shocked and is working with law enforcement to investigate the desecration.

The act, committed on the eve of the 2020 election, was intended to intimidate Trump opponents and Jewish voters in particular, the Michigan Democratic Jewish Caucus said in a press release on Monday.

“It has failed. The Grand Rapids Jewish community will not be intimidated by this vile attack on Ahavas Israel,” the statement said. “Instead, Jews in Grand Rapids, the state of Michigan and across the country will go to the polls (Tuesday) to vote against this president and the hatred, violence and anti-Semitism he so cruelly incites.

The Michigan Republican Party did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
