METRO Manila will remain under general community quarantine (GCQ) in November amid the 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.
This after the Interagency Working Group for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, in its meeting on Thursday, firmly approved the quarantine classifications announced by President Rodrigo Duterte earlier this week.
The task force gave local government units only until Wednesday to appeal the quarantine classifications.
Our quarantine classifications are also final after the deadline given to local governments to appeal (quarantine classifications are now final after the period of time within which local government units can appeal has elapsed), the spokesperson of the palace, Harry Roque Jr. said during an Always Ready public briefing on Friday.
Metro Manila has been under GCQ since June, except for the 15-day return to Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine, or MECQ, last August after front-line doctors requested a “time out.”
Apart from Metro Manila, Batangas, Iloilo City, Bacolod City, Tacloban City, Iligan City and Lanao del Sur are also found under GCQ.
In his speech aired last Tuesday, Duterte said the community quarantine is for the benefit of the people, as Covid-19 cases continue to rise and many have died.
He said mayors also wanted to maintain permanent community quarantine, as they saw that the measures have slowed the spread of Covid-19.
