MERALCO is looking to surprise and eliminate San Miguel on Sunday in their quarterfinal clash of the PBA Philippine Cup at the Cultural Center and Sports Stadium of the University Foundation of Angeles.
The only rubber match of the quarterfinals is scheduled for 6:45 p.m.
The Bolts are eager to finish off the Beermen after beating them, 78-71, last Friday and erasing their opponent’s two-shot lead.
But Meralco coach Norman Black knows that evicting the five-time defending champion is easier said than done.
Black said San Miguel had a bad shooting night in the first game of the series, and if the Beermen had hit a few of them, it would have made a big difference in last Friday’s game.
San Miguel only shot 5 of 32 from triples.
“The only thing you have to respect with San Miguel is that they have been so good for so long, they have a lot of experience, they lack some key players at the moment, but they still have key players on the court,” he said. Black.
“You really can’t let your guard down when playing against them. Even if they have some injuries, you have to go out there and play hard every minute that you’re on the court, ”Black said.

For San Miguel, Mo Tautuaa had 14 points and 11 rebounds, but had little help due to the bad shot of the Beermen.
Marcio Lassiter had 12 points but was 1 of 9 out of three, while Arwind Santos gave up eight points and missed three triples in the contest.
“They missed three-point shots that they normally make, Arwind normally does, Marcio Lassiter normally does. You can’t let your guard down. You have to play hard for 48 minutes, ”Black said.
