Manila, Philippines – Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) will extend its period of non-disconnection for non-payment of electricity bills until January 31, 2021, according to President Lord Allan Velasco.

In his letter to Meralco president Ray Espinosa on November 30, Velasco asked the country’s largest power distributor to give its customers until the end of January next year to settle their unpaid bills.

“After careful evaluation and consideration,” Espinosa told Velasco in his December 14 response that Meralco had granted his request.

“The extended grace period granted to our fellow Filipinos during the Christmas season will provide much-needed respite to those reeling from the devastating effects of the pandemic and natural calamities,” Velasco said Sunday.

Meralco previously imposed a deadline of December 31, 2020 for clients to settle their unpaid invoices, extending its previous deadline of September 30. INQ
