Prince Harry is reportedly ‘causing a headache’ with a ‘very uncomfortable’ wish that he and Meghan Markle be included in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Next year, the country will mark the 70th anniversary event with what was envisioned as a four-day spectacle of public celebrations, including parades and pageantry.
In November, Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden announced that British people will also enjoy a four-day bank holiday between June 2-5 to celebrate the historic milestone.
And it looks like the queen’s grandson Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, who were stripped of their honorary military appointments and royal patronages, are eager to join in the fun.
But the couple’s planned attendance is said to be causing trouble at Buckingham Palace after the Queen confirmed that the couple would sever all official ties to The Firm after they decided to resign their duties and leave public service for good.
Now, The Sun is reporting that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who left the royal family last year, want to return for family occasions.
Speaking to the newspaper, ‘an informant’ was reported to have said: “Harry wants to be there. It is already causing a headache and it will be very uncomfortable.
“Where will they be placed if they appear? What events can they attend? Will we put them on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for the flypast?
“This is a celebration of the Queen’s 70 years of service to the nation and should not be overshadowed. Now there are many questions about what to do with Harry and Meghan. “
After the announcement of the military title was made, Buckingham Palace said in a statement that they are “saddened by his decision” but said that Meghan and Harry “remain very dear members of the family.”
In response, a spokesperson for Harry and Meghan said: “As evidenced by their work over the past year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain committed to their duty and service to the UK and around the world, and have offered their support. continuous to the organizations they have represented regardless of their official role.
“We can all live a life of service. Service is universal.”
It is unclear what form the Queen’s anniversary celebrations will take next year in the wake of the Covid pandemic with Buckingham Palace, yet to confirm changes in plans.
Prince Harry is expected to travel to the UK later this summer to unveil the statue of his later mother, Princess Diana.
It comes when Prince William was “shocked” by his brother’s behavior towards the monarch after Harry and Meghan released a statement moments after the queen confirmed that their royal patronages would be returned to him.
Courtiers and other family members were also said to be upset by the tone of the couple’s response to the Queen in which they responded by saying that “service is universal.”
In a busy week for royalty, Harry and Meghan, who are expecting their second child later this year, have discussed their role within The Firm in an upcoming interview with Oprah Winfrey.
The interview of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, which will air in early March, will be reissued in the wake of the latest chapter of their break with the royal family.
Buckingham Palace was said to have been surprised by the announcement of the revealing interview.
