Megawide-GMR Appeals OPS Revocation for P109B NAIA Rehabilitation – Manila Bulletin

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) revoked Megawide’s Original Proponent Status (OPS) and GMR Infrastructure’s P109 billion proposal to rehabilitate Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) without “no reason given” and proponents reporters said last night (December 15) they are asking for reconsideration.

When asked if the government gave any basis for the measure, the proponent said: “None. They just informed us that our OPS was canceled. “

At a time of economic crisis, the government’s move was “a devastating blow against progress,” Megawide-GMR declared in its statement.

NAIA’s rehabilitation, “a critical step toward national economic recovery, was further delayed by corrupt and vested interests that have spent millions trying to bring down the only capable and qualified player,” according to the statement.

Megawide-GMR will immediately file a motion to reconsider its proposal.

At all stages, Megawide has complied with all government requirements and interpretations for its unsolicited proposal.
“There are no justifiable reasons to deny the Filipino people a transformed NAIA,” the proponent insisted.

Megawide and GMR Infrastructure (GMR) first submitted a proposal for the rehabilitation of NAIA in 2018.

After nearly two years of unsuccessful discussions with several of the nation’s largest conglomerates, Megawide was asked by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) five months ago to consider resubmitting its proposal to rehabilitate the NAIA.

The Philippine national government even insisted on contractual terms that were stricter than those given to the first proponent.

In response to the government’s call, Megawide said they presented an innovative proposal that sought not only to rehabilitate NAIA but to transform it into a first world global airport complex.

As the only Philippine company to design, engineer and operate the only world-class airport in the Philippines today, Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA), in conjunction with GMR Infrastructure, the world’s fourth largest airport operator, Megawide He said he has proven his experience and success at the real world airport.

Under the proposal, Megawide and GMR will not only rehabilitate the facilities, but will also enhance and enhance the livelihoods of thousands of airport employees to make them experts in their fields.

In September 2020, Megawide delivered Clark International Airport to DOTr, ahead of schedule and under budget.

No other company can claim this record of excellence in airport design, engineering, construction and delivery, the company said.

This November, Megawide and GMR celebrated their sixth anniversary of operating the MCIA.

“We will break the chains of backwardness, corruption and inefficiency that have slowed the progress of our main portal and that of our nation,” Megawide promised.

“Our company and our people, our partners and stakeholders at airports and other vital infrastructure, remain fully committed to our mission. Without thinking backward, no vested entity can truly tear down the progress and spirit of A First World in the Philippines. “
