Faced with a “take it or leave it” offer, Conor McGregor apparently decided he was too good to pass up.
McGregor, through a social media post on Wednesday, confirmed that he accepted the UFC’s offer for a fight against Dustin Poirier on January 23, 2021.
“I accept, January 23 is underway! My goal is to see this fight at Cowboy Stadium. Appropriate style! Jerry Jones is a friend and the stadium can host our crowd. I’ll be ready for Texas and Texas will be ready for my fans! Then Manny, ”McGregor posted on Twitter.

Earlier on Wednesday, UFC president Dana White told ESPN that he would not give McGregor a date in 2020 for his proposed rematch with Poirier. On October 7, Poirier accepted the UFC’s offer and the January 23 date, with his own social media post: “I accept.”
McGregor had hoped to have the fight on the 2020 schedule, but White held firm Wednesday.
“We did not have an appointment this year. We have everything ready for this year, with world champions fighting for titles, “White told ESPN. “He was offered Dustin Poirier on January 23. It’s a yes or no answer.”
ESPN previously reported that McGregor’s team turned down the UFC’s initial offer regarding Poirier, as he instead attempted to match a match against Manny Pacquiao, 41, a Filipino boxing legend.
McGregor, 32, has held UFC titles in the featherweight and lightweight divisions, but has been at odds with the promotion since a TKO victory over Donald Cerrone at UFC 246 on January 18. He has a 22-4 record in mixed martial arts.
Poirier, 31, owns a 26-6 record with one no contest. In his only fight of 2020, he beat Dan Hooker by unanimous decision on June 27. His previous fight was a submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov in a lightweight championship fight at UFC 242 last September.
