MANILA, Philippines – Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio applied for a one-week medical leave and appointed her younger brother, Deputy Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, as acting mayor for the term.
An announcement from the Davao city mayor’s office on September 26 showed that the presidential daughter is on leave from September 28 to October 5.
“She will be out of town for medical reasons. She is continually present online to meet her office deadlines, ”the ad reads.
In a memorandum dated September 23, Duterte-Carpio said that his younger brother Sebastián “will assume the duties and responsibilities of said position (interim mayor) as mandated by law and will oversee the general operations of all governments / departments / officials of the city, and any other duties that the undersigned may entrust from time to time. “
