MARK Magsayo had been warned that Rigoberto Hermosillo is a tough Mexican.

In fact, it was.

Hermosillo put Magsayo to work and it took the full 10 rounds to clinch a split decision victory Sunday (Manila time) in their featherweight fight at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

The Filipino fought the Mexican game, but hit the hardest shots to get the nod from at least two of the judges late in the fight.

Two of them scored it 100-90 and 96-94 for the 25-year-old Tagbilaran native, Bohol, while the other had the 28-year-old Mexican win it 96-94.

Magsayo maintained his impeccable record at 21-0 (14 KOs) in his first fight with trainer Freddie Roach and the new MP (Manny Pacquiao) Promotions team.

Hermosillo, a last minute substitute for American José Haro, fell to a record of 11-3-1 (8 KOs).
