MANILA – The Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) on Thursday expressed its joy over the victory of national boxer-turned-professional Eumir Felix Marcial in his professional debut against Andrew Whitfield in Los Angeles on December 16.
“We are happy for Eumir and we send him our congratulations. We hope he can now consider rejoining the national team and focus on training for Olympic-style boxing, ”said ABAP Secretary General Ed Picson.
The president of ABAP, Ricky Vargas, for his part said, “we expected no less from Eumir. His talent and skills helped him. We are glad that he had time to be active during this pandemic and should help him when he focuses on training for the Olympics. “
The national boxing team is preparing for “bubble training” and is in negotiations for training abroad at the nearest available opportunity.
ABAP also has another boxer qualified for the Olympics in Irish Magno and several others who hope to reserve a ticket to the Olympiad next year.
Among them are reigning women’s world champion Nesthy Petecio, 2016 Olympian Rogen Ladon, and Filibritish wrestler John Marvin. (PR)
