The Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) said Mandaue City was generally peaceful during the Christmas celebration.
In an interview with Police Major Zosimo Jabas, head of the MCPO Operations and Management Unit, said that on Christmas Day there were no reports of firecrackers being lit or sold and fireworks displayed in the city.
This in contrast to 2019, where 2,000 pieces of piccolo, 920 pieces of binggala and 160 pieces of pop-pop have been confiscated.
The day after Christmas Day, the streets of Mandaue City were relatively clean as there were no firecracker wrappers to be seen anywhere.
Jabas also said that only minor crimes were reported during the celebration, such as public intoxication. Cases of theft were also reported before Christmas week.
Jabas said they also received complaints about loud music, especially neighbors singing karaoke. However, at 10 o’clock at night, an hour before curfew, these families have already stopped their videoke machines.
Although there were meetings on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Jabas said it was only inside his family residence.
Jabas said the pandemic had an impact on the public’s compliance with the protocols implemented during this Christmas season.
Barangay officials also helped the public to strictly implement the protocols at the barangay level, the official said.
Jabas said they are ready to prepare their monitoring for the upcoming New Year’s Eve celebration on December 31, 2020. (KFD)
