MANILA – The Makati City Police Chief has dismissed as false a statement by him apologizing for handling the case of flight attendant Christine Dacera.

He also denied offering a leave of absence to open up an investigation.

“Fake news,” Police Colonel Harold Deposit told ABS-CBN News via text message on Thursday.

“I’m still the COP (police chief) of Makati.”

Depositar, who was recently appointed to the position, was criticized for initial pronouncements on the nature of the Dacera case as a violation.

While the suspects denied the angle and some in the public have doubted, the PNP is still pursuing it as such.

An alleged statement, which was posted on the social media page of a provincial police station and also sent to ABS-CBN News, admitted errors in making assumptions about the case.

He also apologized to Metro Manila Police Director Brig. General Vicente Danao Jr, Chief of the National Police General Debold Sinas, Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, and Filipinos for issuing pronouncements that caused “outrage” and “confusion.”

However, Depositar told ABS-CBN News that the statement was a “demolition job” and that its release was “orchestrated.”

He denied apologizing and repeated the efforts of the police to carry out their investigation.

“We only want to do justice for the death of [Christine]. “
