MANILA, Philippines – Undefeated featherweight Mark Magsayo looks forward to delivering an enthusiastic debut for MP (Manny Pacquiao) Promotions when he takes on Mexico’s Rigoberto Hermosillo on Sunday (Manila time) at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
During Saturday’s weigh-in, Magsayo hit the scale at 127 pounds, while Hermosillo weighed 126.6 pounds.
Magsayo (20-0, 14 KOs) was originally scheduled to fight José Haro, but the American shockingly announced his retirement on social media on September 13.
But despite being just a replacement, Hermosillo (11-2-1, 8 KOs) is not expected to be easy to convince.
“He is fighting a tough Mexican. The guy doesn’t have a great track record, but he has a lot of amateur fights in Mexico, ”MP Promotions President Sean Gibbons said recently.
Magsayo, 25, trained at Wild Card Gym under the direction of Hall of Fame coach Freddie Roach and assistant Marvin Somodio.
The Magsayo-Hermosillo fight tops the PBC Fight Night card on Fox Sports 1.
