Philippine boxer Giemel Magramo was unable to seize the WBO flyweight title after suffering an eighth round knockout loss to Japanese champion Conjunto Nakatani at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan on Friday.
Nakatani sent Magramo to the canvas with a left hook and a solid right late in the eighth round.
Magramo tried to get up, but the referee stopped the fight to save the Filipino from more damage.
With the loss, the 26-year-old Magramo’s record fell to 24-2, while Nakatani’s remained flawless with 21 wins, 16 of which came by knockout.
Inspired by the presence of a small Japanese crowd, the lanky Nakatani dictated the rhythm early in the match, peppering Magramo with left and body shots.
Magramo tried to fight back, but the long Japanese limbs held him at bay. Nakatani unleashed more body shots and uppercuts to weaken Magramo in the sixth and seventh rounds en route to his eighth-round KO victory.
