It is not easy to watch games when your team is out. Even more difficult when they first date in twenty-two years. That’s the first in the life of many Spurs fans.
When teams don’t matter and games can be just games, the greatness of any player begins to take shape.
Right now that shape has the shape of Luka Doncic.
Doncic is averaging just under 30 points per game in Maverick’s series against the Los Angeles Clippers. But the scores are only the tip of the iceberg.
The Mavs have taken two games during the series, nothing more serious than last Sunday’s victory in overtime while playing without Kristaps Porzingis, who will be out for the remainder of the series.
But great players find a way, and in his second season Luka Doncic is proving that he is not only a great player, but that he is the future of greatness. And make no mistake, being the first player in NBA history with the stat line with 43 points, 17 rebounds and 13 assists can set the bar high, but who wants to be the first to rule it out?
Unfortunately, Doncic hasn’t been 100% throughout the series with ankle problems, so Game 6 tonight will be tough. Do it or die, without Porzingis and working through the pain. With the addition of Marcus Morris’s questionable ethics (think Zaza Pachulia versus Kawhi Leonard), this game will inevitably be the biggest of his fledgling career.
We wish the best player for years to come another historic game to keep the Clippers honest and on their toes.
