MANILA, Philippines – One of the Light Rail Transit (LRT-1) cars caught fire near the Gil Puyat Avenue (Buendia) station in Pasay City on Friday afternoon, prompting the rail administration to temporarily limit its operations .
A report from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fire struck an LRT-1 car just as it was leaving the station around 2:24 p.m.
Fire investigators said the fire was completely extinguished after nearly 15 minutes and only hit the first alarm.
Meanwhile, LRT management limited train operations from Central Station to Balintawak and vice versa after the fire incident.
“As of 2:18 pm, 06-11-2020. Limited operations for LRT-1. Trains will only run from Central to Balintawak and vice versa. Our engineering team is working on site on a catenary issue, ”LRT-1 said in a statement on Twitter.
“Assessment and repair may take a few hours, but our team is working as quickly as possible to resolve the issue. We advise the cycling public to plan their schedule accordingly. Stay tuned for our next updates. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, ”he added.
The train management also said that it has deployed a technician to investigate the “catenary failure” between the Buendía and Vito Cruz stations.
“A security stop has been established from Baclaran to Balintawak. The technician is already on board to verify the failure of the catenary located between the G. Puyat and V. Cruz stations. Please allow an additional travel time of about 15 minutes, ”the tweet reads.
