A new low pressure area (LPA) entered the Philippines Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Friday and is likely to develop into a tropical depression to be called “Fifth” within 12 to 24 hours, the Atmospheric Services Administration, Geophysicists and Astronomers of the Philippines (Pagasa) said.
At 10 a.m., the LPA was detected 955 kilometers east of Mindanao and may intensify further as it moves generally northwest toward the Bicol Region-Eastern Visayas area, the state meteorological office said.
The public and disaster risk reduction and management offices are advised to take appropriate action, it said in its 11 am notice.
Climate specialist Ana Clauren told The Manila Times that Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro are experiencing cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms caused by the trough of tropical storm “Pepito”, which now I was outside the PAR.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated showers due to localized thunderstorms, Clauren said.
When asked about weather conditions over the weekend, Clauren said isolated rains would only be experienced in Metro Manila and Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) and in the Region 3 provinces, including Bulacan and Pampanga.
“Only the province of Zambales can experience light to moderate rains until tomorrow (Saturday) but they can improve by Sunday,” he said.
Even if the LPA were to turn into a tropical depression, this would not greatly affect weather conditions in most of the country in the coming days, as it was far away or still east of Mindanao, Clauren said.
