MANILA, Philippines – A low pressure area (LPA) in eastern southern Luzon could turn into a tropical depression in the next 48 hours, the state meteorological office said Sunday.
The Philippine Astronomical, Geophysical and Atmospheric Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA was discovered 1,035 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes at 3 pm.
“This weather disturbance is likely to strengthen further as it moves generally northwestward over the Philippine Sea towards northern Luzon. As such, the LPA can turn into a tropical depression in the next 48 hours, ”Pagasa said in its weather advisory.
Pagasa advised disaster risk reduction and management offices, as well as the public, to monitor updates.
Meanwhile, Pagasa said the Eastern Visayas, Caraga and Davao will experience scattered rains and thunderstorms caused by the LPA trough.
Metro Manila, the Cordillera Administrative Region, the Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, CALABARZON and the Bicol Region will also experience rains due to wind flow on the northeast surface.
Pagasa warned of possible floods or landslides due to moderate and sometimes heavy rains.
