The Los Angeles Lakers failed to take a 3-0 series lead over the Denver Nuggets.
The Los Angeles Lakers were all over the place after an epic shot by Anthony Davis to close Game 2. That was the problem, it was Game 2! The Denver Nuggets reminded everyone (like again!) That they are going nowhere beating a listless Los Angeles Lakers team. Lake Show Life Lessons will illuminate the bad habits the Los Angeles Lakers started in Game 2!
It appears the Los Angeles Lakers had a small taste of what happened to the Utah Jazz and the Los Angeles Clippers in the final six quarters against the Denver Nuggets. While that was going on, the Lakers nearly gave them a taste of their own medicine in a nine-minute flurry in the fourth quarter of a wild ending in Game 3.
Look at the score at this point in the game. Denver went up 20 points after Jamal Murray served him a facial. Kyle Kuzma was kind enough to take pictures instead of rotating.
The writer has an unwritten rule never to assume that a game is over. You have to watch the full 48 minutes because anything can happen. This game was one of those moments. After some time away from Frank Vogel, Rajon Rondo jumped into the car from that “Back to the Future” movie as Michael J. Fox and took some defense from 2008.
He then got it back and locked Jamal Murray in a straitjacket that led a serious defensive charge that nearly knocked the Lakers out of a game they just didn’t play well.
The 20-point deficit was the largest in any game during all of the NBA playoffs, and despite closing the lead to just three points, Murray broke loose and closed the game in a 114-106 loss to the Lakers. The series now stands at 2-1. The Lakers saw a six-game winning streak interrupted and fell to 10-3 in the playoffs.
Many readers think that the Lake Show Life Lessons series may be too critical. Other Lakers websites have called it “Gloom and Doom.” But it’s games like these when post-game reports shine.
After Game 2, these were the headlines in focus before Game 3.
- Anthony Davis will always be in Lakers folklore knocking down that final second triple to save the game with 2.1 seconds left.
- Honoring Kobe Bryant by calling him the “Mamba Shot” with Kobe uniforms.
- The Lakers have officially shown the world that this is not the Los Angeles Clippers (Okay, we give it to you!)
- This series will be a sweep, who will be next?
Lake Show Life Lessons clearly indicated that the Los Angeles Lakers were lucky.
See that Kobe Bryant would not be happy at this point. Why? The work is not finished. He would know that the Lakers shouldn’t have blown a 16-point lead in the first place to even need a last-second shot.
Details. That’s what Kobe Bryant was all about and how Lake Show Life honors him on this series. Denver got back in the game thanks to bad habits from the Lake Show. Those bad habits carried over to Game 3 and it cost them.
The Lakers lost the game being outscored by the Denver Nuggets for most of the game. They did not respect their opponent knowing that the Nuggets would continue to build on the success that almost got them in Game 2. Denver was more aggressive and led to three things that were the key to this loss.
- The Lakers were absolutely dead on the glass as they were rebounded with an absurd 44-25. That’s not going to win many regular season games. Western Conference Finals? NO!
- Allowing 16 turnovers that led to easy baskets at the other end (point guards deliver only 11 turnovers!) Won’t help the cause.
- Sponsoring a Denver Nuggets parade to the free throw line can also be a problem. To put this perspective, the Nuggets were on penalty with more than 9 minutes to go in the third quarter. In short, stop messing around!
Los Angeles Lakers problems from the 3-point line returned. Sure they shot 51.8% from the field overall, but they were horrible from range shots 6-26 attempts. The Nuggets pulled the variations of their zone defenses and will look for it on Thursday.
Simply put, shooters must demonstrate that they can shoot over the area for the remainder of the series.
