MANILA, Philippines – Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana on Sunday challenged the founding chairman of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), Joma Sison, to “launch his terrorist threats” following the deployment of so-called partisan units of communist rebels to persecute the government. cash.

“We challenge Mr. Sison to bring his terrorist threats. Unlike the 1980s, the AFP is more prepared to defeat its terrorist liquidation squads. The Filipino people will be on our side in this fight, ”Lorenzana said in a statement, reacting to the comment from the CPP’s chief information officer, Marco Valbuena, that partisan units will be revived.

In addition, Lorenzana said that the order from the communist rebels to send partisan units is a “confirmation of the ATC [Anti-Terrorism Council’s] designation of the CPP-NPA as a terrorist organization ”. Under the 2020 Anti-Terrorism Act, ATC will designate groups or individuals as terrorists for probable cause.

The Chief of Defense also promised that the government will end the destruction caused by the NPA rebels to the public.

“The end of his 52 destructive years of misadventures that caused untold misery to our people is near, and it is inevitable and irreversible,” Lorenzana said.

“It’s time for you [communist rebels] to face reality, ”Lorenzana said.

In a tweet last week, Valbuena said there is a “standing order for the NPA to form partisan teams to impose punishments on enemy units and officers who have committed bloody crimes against the people.”
