MANILA, Philippines – Marikina residents sought higher ground when Typhoon Ulysses hit Luzon, including Metro Manila, causing major flooding on Thursday.

Numerous Marikina residents had to be rescued to escape devastating flooding when Typhoon Ulysses (international name: Vamco) struck the Philippine capital, causing the Marikina River to rise 22 meters at 11 a.m., according to the information office. city ​​public.

The Marikina City Council also did not escape the floods, prompting the local government to relocate its operations. The mayor of the city, Marcelino Teodoro, said that the floods are “chest deep” in most of the barangays (towns) of the city.
