‘Rape is not a joke’
On Sunday, September 20, the phrase “rape is not a joke” was trending on Twitter the Philippines after several Soberano fan accounts discovered Olaes’ comments on Facebook against his idol. It appeared shortly after Soberano ranted about Converge ICT Solutions Inc.’s slow internet speed and poor customer service on social media.

On September 21, Converge’s official Twitter account addressed the issue, stating that management is “deeply concerned about the incorrect comments and behavior of some [of their] employees through social media “.
While the tweet did not necessarily refer to Sovereign’s threat of violation, they added, “We do not tolerate such actions towards any customer and emphasize that their personal opinions do not reflect the company’s perspective, values and culture. What really happened
This latest social media controversy began earlier this month when Soberano expressed his frustration with the slow internet speed and poor customer service from Converge on his official Twitter account.
“Converge really needs to start fixing its internet speed. I’m a disgruntled customer … I can’t even answer the phone every time we call. How unprofessional, ”he wrote on September 6.
Shortly after, PLDT detected her complaint and offered the actress a replacement Internet connection, which they delivered the next day.
Soberano happily updated his fans on what happened and posted: “Okay, so @pldt came to my house yesterday and connected me to the best Internet that I have experienced in my 5 years of living in this house. 300 MBPS. What a life saver. Delay? I don’t know her. “
While many netizens shared Soberano’s happiness, there were others who started an argument, accusing PLDT of “favoritism”, and many of the complaints from the company’s clients were barely addressed.
In a separate post on September 9, Soberano clarified that he did not mean to hurt in his PLDT tweet, saying: “In no way was it my intention to brag. I was really relieved to finally have fast internet. I know it is a problem that we are all struggling with right now. So please all ISPs do everything you can to help people, especially at a time like this when the Internet has become essential. We are all trying to survive and finish school and work. “
In the same post, the actress called a Converge employee who allegedly disclosed her personal details online.
“And to that employee of my former Internet provider who disclosed [my] personal information. Don’t try to turn this on me. My whole spiel was about poor customer service. That’s pretty shallow of you trying to make it seem like it’s my fault why I have a bad internet, ”he said.
It is unclear if this particular employee is also Olaes from Converge who posted the threat of rape.
