Timo Werner “would love to play Jurgen Klopp” in Liverpool.
That’s according to former Premier League striker Jan Aage Fjortoft, who says Klopp’s connection to Germany puts him in the driver’s seat to sign the striker.
Werner is a long-term Liverpool transfer target, and has previously expressed his admiration for Klopp and what he has accomplished at Anfield.
The RB Leipzig star is one of the few forwards on Liverpool’s radar, alongside Kylian Mbappe and Jadon Sancho, but Fjortoft believes Werner is the most likely to sign.
Fjortoft told The Kopite Podcast: “The reason I started to think it was very interesting, Timo Werner to Liverpool, is of course Jurgen’s connection to Germany.
“We should never underestimate the attractiveness of a manager.”
At my level, when Bryan Robson called me and he was the manager of Middlesbrough and I was in Swindon, I said ‘yes’.
“And I remember that with Kenny Dalglish when he was at Blackburn and suddenly he had [Alan] Shearer and Chris Sutton had a lot of players going there.
“For us, all money is important, but we also want to have fun, we also want to improve as players, and Dortmund and Liverpool and some big clubs have the attraction power of their stadium, the atmosphere, the history.”
“But it is also important the power of attraction of the coach and that a German player plays for Jurgen Klopp, that is the number one objective, Timo Werner would love to do it.”
