The frenzy of recruitment at the University of the Philippines (UP) got another big name from the University of Santo Tomas (UST) program with former Tiger Cub star Bismarck Lina being hosted at Diliman.
“He’s a young man with a great fighting attitude and potential,” Fighting Maroons coach Bo Perasol told the Inquirer in a brief exchange Monday. “He’s going to be part of the 84 season team.”
That statement has made Lina’s transfer official, which only means that UST continues to be plunged into even deeper waters following the exposure of Sorsogon’s controversial training “bubble” from resigned coach Aldin Ayo that ruined the very promising program that also built meticulously.
CJ Cansino also moved to UP, which exposed the Capuy camp. Rhenz Abando and two others followed suit and joined the power of the NCAA Letran, before Mark Nonoy, last season’s Rookie of the Year, professed loyalty to Ayo and left for La Salle.

At UP, Lina joins Carl Tamayo and Gerry Abadiano, with whom she played for Gilas Pilipinas Youth at the Fiba U-19 World Cup in Heraklion, Greece, last year.
Violation of quarantine protocols by UST continues to be reviewed by government agencies, namely the Department of Justice and the Department of the Interior and Local Government on the recommendation of the Higher Education Commission.
