Manila, Philippines – Several units of the local government have declared the cancellation of classes for Monday, November 16, 2020, due to the continuing effects of Typhoon Ulysses.
In a Twitter post, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte announced Sunday that synchronous or online classes in Kindergarten through High School in Quezon City public schools will be suspended from November 16-17, 2020.
“Other learning modes (asynchronous / modular printed) will continue. The maximum leniency will be extended to all students in light of the damage caused by the typhoon, “added Mayor Belmonte.
“Private schools have the power to suspend classes at their discretion, per the Department of Education’s NCR Notice issued on November 14, 2020.”
This decision was based on the recommendation of the Quezon City Department of Education (DepEd) School Division Office.
The Caloocan city government also suspended online classes from November 16-21; while Pasig City has announced the suspension of classes from kindergarten through high school on Monday and Tuesday (November 16-17).
On the other hand, the Mayor of Manila Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso has announced that “tomorrow, November 16, 2020, primary, secondary and high school classes will resume. Use of classroom messenger and asynchronous mode in areas with weak internet signal.
The local executive director based his decision on the recommendation of Dr. Magdalena Lim, director of the Manila City Schools Division.
Meanwhile, Adamson University also announced the suspension of classes on November 16 and 17.
The Polytechnic University of the Philippines declared academic vacations at all levels, all branches and campuses from November 16 to 27.
The University of Santo Tomás, meanwhile, announced the suspension of synchronous and asynchronous classes from November 16 to 21.
