Gemma Miranda leads the 177 players who will participate in the first WNBL Combine Draft scheduled next month.
Miranda was one of 702 players who ran for the historic inaugural draft of the women’s professional basketball league.
Applicants from across the country were screened by the selection committee which reduced the number of applicants to 177.
“We filter the players by the years they played and their character reference.” said tournament commissioner Bujoy Magno during So She Did!
“Always, we also look at their age and if they are willing to travel to Pampanga for the team.” added NBL director of basketball operations Edward Aquino.
Miranda dressed as a guest player on the PSI Lady Air Defenders in the WNBL’s first season as an amateur league last year and the outstanding national team won the final MVP.
Other notable names to make it into the draft are UAAP Season 82 Finals MVP Monique Del Carmen and former UAAP MVPs Marichu Bacaro, Camille Sambile and Raiza Dy. Clarissa Lanuza, Fille Claudine Cainglet, Camille Claro, Jocy Positos, Camille Ramos, AJ Gloriani, Marites Gadian, Tina Deacon, and Snow Penaranda also made the list.
The oldest of the group is Marites Gadian, 38.
After the evaluation process, the recruits will be able to show their talents to the teams during the WNBL Draft Combine that will take place at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga. The dates of which are still being finalized.
Each team that already saw action in the WNBL last year has the privilege of protecting six players from its original roster. Armed Forces players, meanwhile, should only submit their rosters to the league as long as they are enlisted for a minimum of one year.
