MILWAUKEE: LeBron James scored 34 points, the season-high, to help the Los Angeles Lakers open a seven-game trip with a 113-106 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday night (Friday in Manila).
Los Angeles (12-4) rallied after losing a double-digit fourth-quarter lead in a 115-113 loss to Golden State on Monday night. The Bucks (9-6) lost their second straight game.
The Lakers shot 19 of 37 from 3-point range, with James 6 of 10 and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope 7 of 10. Caldwell-Pope scored 23 points.
Giannis Antetokounmpo had 25 points and 12 rebounds for Milwaukee, but also had nine turnovers. Jrue Holiday scored 22 points and Khris Middleton added 20.
This game pitted reigning NBA champion Lakers against a Bucks team that has had the league’s best regular-season record each of the past two years.
It also featured the top two vote winners in the 2019-20 MVP voting. Antetokounmpo won the award for the second consecutive season. James, a four-time MVP, finished a distant second.
Knicks 119, Warriors 104
SAN FRANCISCO: RJ Barrett had a career-high 28 points and New York equaled its longest winning streak of the season in three games by beating Golden State.
Stephen Curry scored 30 points on five 3-pointers, but shot just 9 of 19, as Golden State lacked the same energy it had in a lopsided win against the Spurs the night before. It certainly didn’t help that Draymond Green was sent off late in the first half for a disputed technique when he appeared to be yelling at a teammate.
Julius Randle added 16 points, 17 rebounds and nine assists for the Knicks to hit .500 (8-8) after a five-game losing streak.
Andrew Wiggins scored 17 points and nine rebounds for the Warriors from cold shots, who finished with 9 of 38 3-pointers.
Jazz 129, Pelicans 118
SALT LAKE CITY: Donovan Mitchell scored a season-high 36 points, and Utah rallied to beat New Orleans for its seventh straight victory.
Mitchell was 6 of 7 from 3-point range in another efficient performance. Utah shot 50 percent from the field after hitting 50.6 percent of his shots during a 118-102 win over the Pelicans on Tuesday night.
Mike Conley added 20 points and Jordan Clarkson had 19 for the Jazz, who have the longest active winning streak in the NBA.
Zion Williamson scored 27 points and Brandon Ingram 23, but the Pelicans couldn’t keep up their initial momentum.
