LeBron James’ approach has not wavered despite a never-before-seen situation.
This season will go down as the most unique NBA season of all time. After a months-long hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NBA resumed play in a bubble atmosphere at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. The only constant this season is that LeBron James (and the Los Angeles Lakers) are in the NBA Finals.
The Lakers may be a new face due to recent trials and tribulations, but the Lakers franchise remains the most prestigious in the league. James, of course, has been to 10 NBA Finals, including eight of the last nine.
This is possibly his toughest road in the conditions of this NBA season. Before the start of the bubble, it was a common consensus among experts that this format would benefit younger players as they were further removed from college (and dorm) situations. This is essentially every college athlete’s dream dorm.
LeBron is obviously far from a young player when it comes to the league’s superstars, but that hasn’t mattered. The Lakers reached the NBA Finals with a 12-3 record and LeBron James assured fans that despite everything that is happening, he is still as locked in as ever.
The part of LeBron James’s comments that really caught my eye was that he said “if I’m going to be here, I’ll make the most of it.” He also said, at the end of the clip, “no matter how many days, it feels like five years.”
LeBron and others have been away from their families for two months, which is obviously a much tougher obstacle for those with children than for those living the single life. LeBron, as we know from looking at him, is as great a family man as he looks.
It would be impossible to blame LeBron for allowing that to serve as a distraction. Family is the most important thing, especially in times like these, and it’s very It’s easy to lose focus on basketball when you haven’t seen your family in two months.
However, being the best basketball player on planet Earth, LeBron seems to have that change in him. That switch that puts you in game mode the second the opening notice floats in the air.
Even if he has not been as dominant in these playoffs as in recent years, he has been fantastic and, as he himself said, the preparation has not wavered at all.
Hopefully, that can result in an NBA Championship at the end of the NBA Finals. Then during that moment when you lift your fourth Larry O’Brien Trophy over your head, it might finally be worth it.
